Edwina Fu: Though some doctors say that a little bit of wine now and then is safe, the consenses generally is that abstinence is the best policy when it comes to pregnancy. By this, I mean, any vice you used to partake in, it would be better just to avoid it. A little bit of alcohol to you is still a lot to the fetus (just think about the body size difference!!) and alcohol is like poison in a way, with the ability to kill brain cells and damage organs. It is undetermined exactly how much alcohol it takes to create the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome. In addition, some of the long term effects are not easy to see at birth but can become more evident later on, such as learning disabilities, these effects can be linked to alcohol use by the mother during pregnancy, but it could also relate to a number of other factors. It's too risky to test human mothers and drinking varying levels of alcohol during pregnancy and at different stages to determine the effects later on, ! so that information is rather vague. So like you said some people tend to say, "Why take the chance?"...Show more
Natalya Sydney: My girlfriend of 8 months and I just found out today that she is pregnant. She is 16 right now and will be 17 when the baby is born. The same goes for me. We are happy. Even though we are young, we love eachother very much and were ready to do whats necessary for the baby. Whats it like being a teen father or a teen mother or teen parents? Im just wondering how its going to be. We will stick with eachother forever and we both know that but we just dont know how its going to be. Itll be tough but whats it like? Our families will help us out because we have loving families and we believe that the baby will do fine because we have such a big group of people helping and supporting us. When the baby is born she will have about 4 months left of her senior year in high school and ill have the rest of my junior year and the rest of my senior yea! r the following year. What does she do about her education. N! either of us are dropping out but we dont know what to do. We live in NYS. Any info??...Show more
Joellen Zorrilla: So last week I was sent to the hospital because I was having my bloody show and contractions 10-15 minutes apart. My cervix hadnt changed (from 3 cm) so they gave me a sleeping pill and sent me home expecting to see me again soon. But I never got back into the swing of things and my show stopped. Is this normal? Anyone had their bloody show and not go directly into labor? If so, how long was it before labor started?
Alden Soldano: Yes it's more than fine. Just don't drink 24 in one sitting.
Rona Espalin: Can you say ADOPTION?You kids are too young to be having babies at your age. You need to finish school and get a good start in adult life before you take on a baby.Babies need adult and responsible parents with the financial resources, wisdom and life-experience to raise a child. At 16, you don't have that-- not yet. At 16, you should be ! enjoying life as teenagers, going to football games, eating pizza and hanging out with friends... not staying up all night with a fussy baby then trying to stay awake in class, then going to work to make money to care for a hungry baby.I know you two could give that baby lots of love-- but babies need so much more than that. Please, consider adoption. It's a loving thing to do, really. Then you know that the baby will have everything he or she will need to grow up healthy and cared for physically and emotionally. Nowadays, you can even have an "open" adoption where the child can meet you at a later date if that's cool with you and "him/her".I know-- I've done it. My son is now 22. I had him at age 19. We have since met and we have a wonderful relationship now. However, there was NO way I could have raised him as well as he turned out had I tried to do it at 19. And he understands that, no resentment. At least consider it....Show more
Derick Kinnard: You in for! a hard road you have to go from being a teenager to an adult. No more ! weekend parties, being able do what you want on the drop of the dime. Hopefully you will stand by your word. Its easy to say now, but I have known guys who said they would stick by pregnant girlfriend only to eventual bail either before baby was born or sometimes even after. Once they realized that parenting was no game, how difficult it can be. When they wanted to just be young and be able to do what their friends (other young people) were doing. Obviously you need to get a job try to get some full time during the summer, and starting saving. Then once you go back to school you can get a job part time, possible even have two part time jobs. As someone said if you wanted you could try and test out of high school. Then maybe work full time for a year, then go to college. Some colleges even have family living....Show more
Leora Klingelhoets: It's a good thing you both have loving families and want to finish your education. There are alternative schools for teens with! children where parents can go to class while their children are at a free or low cost daycare in the same building. Look it up on the internet for those schools in your area. As far as your relationship goes, I'd say it's time to go back to the olden days version of family values. You and your girlfriend are going to have to start acting much more mature in order to be taken seriously when you go out into the world beyond your family's protective hover....Show more
Warren Kotter: I think just one would be safe! I know a woman who constantly boozed whilst pregnant and went on to have healthy twins! But i still think it is wiser to steer clear of alcohol or have just a tiny amount (i.e Very small glass of low volume wine or non alcoholis beer). I had 2 non alcoholic beer when I was pregnant and my daughter is perfectly healthy!!
Dorine Nurre: Get a pregnancy test.Every body is different. I had a brown discharge for 2 days, but that happened a month after I got ! pregnant. It happen again when I was two months pregnant. The best way t! o tell is to get a pregnancy test or go to your doctor to be sure....Show more
Fritz Sisomphou: Do not drop out of school!! Finish your education so that you can provide for you family. In the beginning you will have to make sacrifices. Perhaps her family or your family will let you live with them. It will be important to have a supportive family so that you can both finish your education. Take care of your family....Take care of your baby and take care of your future!!! Do not drop out of school!!!
Ira Porietis: Most people are concerned with the alcohol intake....just remember there is yeast in there....too much and you might get a yeast infection.I'd avoid beer til after the birth and you're done breast feeding!
Irma Poiter: O Douls Pregnancy
Nedra Oltz: It's too soon to tell
Stanton Degregorio: Bloody show is not a reason to go to L&D. It is a symptom of labor, but it by no means signifies the baby is coming. Some women lose their muc! us plug or "bloody show" weeks before labor starts. Some never lose it. Unless otherwise specified by your doctor: If your membranes rupture (water breaks), or if you are having steady contractions 4-5 minutes apart for an hr., or if you are experiencing heavy (period-like) bleeding, then you should immediately go to the hospital. If you are not experiencing any of these but are still concerned, you should call your doctor, or, if he cannot be reached, call L&D and ask to speak to a nurse. Both are good resources for whether or not you are really in labor. That being said, some women have been known to start having labor (start dilating with steady, increasingly closer together and stronger contractions) and then "stop". It should start up again though, when the baby is ready to come. I guess he just changed his mind :) If the hospital sent you home, then I suspect they didn't think you or your baby were in danger. Take it easy and congrats! I know it's hard to play the wait! ing game, but that baby will be here soon enough!...Show more
Kiz! zy Hett: O Douls Pregnant
Hunter Osterberger: Bloody show: Loss of mucous plugDuring pregnancy, a thick plug of mucus blocks the cervical opening to prevent bacteria from entering the uterus. When your cervix begins to thin and open, this plug may be discharged. You may notice stringy mucus or a thick discharge. It's typically brown and sometimes tinged with blood. Losing the mucous plug is among the telltale signs of labor, but it's not a guarantee. Labor may still be days away....Show more
Dewey Heersink: i think it depends how far a long you are but o'douls isnt even an alcoholic beverage. so don't trip. and yes i do believe that an occasional glass of wine is safe. not everyday! but maybe once a month.
Leann Villalta: you guys are the same age I was when I had my daughter. As for the school part the school system will provide her with a tutor a couple of times a week- mine was my science teacher. The district paid her so I didn't pay a dime and was abl! e to do all of my assignments and graduate on time that way. She will need to let her teachers and her counselor most importantly know she's pregnant the counselor will set everything into motion. The two of you may be offered group counseling with other teen parents, some h.s's nowadays let you put your child in the in house daycare while you're in class. The best thing you can do now is to be there for her and go out and get a job and start saving as babies are expensive. Once she gets her pregnancy confirmed through her Dr she can go to WIC and they'll help with milk, cheese, and formula it's ran by the health dept, she can also go to social services and apply for medicaid to cover the baby and her while she's pregnant. College would be the same most offer on site childcare at a discounted fee as well as social services offers daycare assistance where you pick the licensed daycare and they pay the difference of what you cannot afford they base it off of your income. Oh c! ollege you can apply for the pell grants or whatever you qualify and th! eir career guidance area will tell you what's offered for people in your situation it is hard- but you must stay focused and keep pushing forward so that one day you can provide a stable home for your child. Brock Hladik: I got pregnant when i was 16 i am 17 now and my son is 7 months. Well yes it is really hard. But dont let noone tell you not to do it cuz you to young it has nothing to do with age not even a little bit it matters if you are mature enough you can be 29 and still not need a kid. I was ready i am a good mom i have fun with my kid he is the best thing in my life. And for your girl whatever you do dont be mean to her while she is pregnant or in labor and i mean even little fights LET HER WIN. It wont hurt you to let her win for 9 months it will be a bonus for you later. Um.. If she does drop out she will regret it for the rest of her life.. If she gets her education it will not only help her but it will help your child alot....Show more
Riley Migl: It will be hard but not impossible. There are several books that are excellent for parents and a few geared toward teenage parents like Your Pregnancy and Newborn Journey: A Guide for Pregnant Teens by Jean Warren Lindsay. For school, you could check into online highschool programs, many states have them or have an alternative option for teenage parents. You could also get a GED and go straight to college. You are lucky you both have good families who are willing to provide you with love and support....Show more
Alvaro Oare: the standard answer in the US is that there is no known safe amount of alcohol in pregnancy. that said, in other parts of the world, it is more acceptable to drink when pregnant. i had a guinness once in a while later in pregnancy. far less alcohol in o'douls than in a glass of wine. i wouldn't worry if you had one or two non-alcoholic beers in pregnancy.
Sheron Perrez: hey my best friend wen through the same thing she! was 17 though and when she had her baby she had about 4 months left of! high school and she finshed and she now goes to college and her baby is just fine and very spoiled you will be fine her and her boyfriend are VERY happy congrats!
Karl Jantzen: uh, thats how my 2nd child miscarried.
Madlyn Fallis: i would think that most of it would depend on how far along you are and if you have a high risk pregnancy or not.. I would say to not over do anything but if you have one or two I think you should be all set.
Betsey Copp: I had sex 10 days ago. About two or three days ago i had a brown discharge for about 2 days. This isn't entirely uncommon for my period, but it only lasted for 2 days and usually its longer than that. im not sure when i was supposed to get my period so i don't know whether im late or not. Could i be pregnant or was it my period? Is it too soon to tell?
Susan Rambo: ok well first thin is first if she doesnt have health ins. she needs to get it but she should see about medicade though so that the baby has h! ealth ins when it is born incase it needs anything. next you need to get a job atleast part time your parents should not have to buy diapers and formula. let them buy the cloths and crib and stuff like that but prove that your old enough to take care of the baby. than finish school you will be verrrrrrry tired and your grades will slip a bit but talk to teachers maybe they can give you a break on homework due and stuff. but trust me its hard enough to get a good job with a HS dep. and if she has to she will have to skip the rest of the year and go back at the beining but its whats needed. I belive your both old enough and have enough people to help you so just hang in there and you will do it.by the way just because you both have a baby together does not mean you have to stay together 4-ever! but it sounds like you both are fine worry about now and not later....Show more
Sol Allphin: be prepared, im sure you're going to have lots of negative comments. but you know, th! e fact that you're going to stick by her and help out with you twos bab! y is the first step. just because she got pregnant, doesn't mean its the end of the word. it will be a long road ahead of you two but you guys seem like you can handle it. good luck. and despite what everyone is going to say, im going to say congrats and i hope everything works out the way you want which im sure it will. be prepared for a lot of hard work and responsibilty though! :) babies are a lot work, but are priceless. Robt Betker: It has never been proven what amount of alcohol is considered unsafe during pregnancy, so most people just choose to! not do it at all.If you're looking for facts, you won't find any, because it's never been proven, and I don't think it can be proven. There's alcohol in root beer too, by the way....Show more
Donella Vasta: Well you could be pregnant and it sounds like it is definately to early to show up on a pregnancy test. i would wait until I miss my next period. The bleeding you had sounds like implantation bleeding. Usually two weeks after the unprotected sex is when you should take a pregnancy test. (www.optionline.org) Visit that website it should help you out at least a little bit. But it really sounds to me like its a little to early to tell. Just wait another two weeks to test and then you should know for sure. Good Luck....Show more
