American Board games?

Gaston Edgcomb: What ages, how many people, what kinds of board games have they already played? If first time gamers and including young children (older than 6 or 8):"TransAmerica"http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2842/transa..."Ticket to Ride"http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9209/ticket..."Ra"http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12/ra"Attika"http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/8051/attikaThese four are ranked in difficulty (easy to harder), though all are lighter.Old style games that are carried by Wallmart or Toys'r' Us are flops for any fun play. There has been an explosion of titles over the last decade though they all have smaller sells every year than "Monopoly".You will have to find these games on EBay or at online stores unless you live near a still standing hobby store that sells games....Show more

Jayson Brod: Scrabble, Aggravation, Monopoly, Yahtzee, Trivia Pursuit, Game of Life, Sorry and Clue are all really good board games for the whole! family to play together.Hope that helps!

Carlee Tangaro: The games I can think of are: Sorry, Yahtzee, Candy Land, and Trouble. I think Connect Four is also going to work, but it is for two players. Maybe you can take turn going against each of your family member.

Gaylord Barragan: As much as it pains this patriot to say it, American board games aren't good. In fact, most of them suck. The good ones come out of Germany. In the 1980s, the Germans started to make complex and engaging board games instead of getting into video games. As a result, games like monopoly and risk can't even hold a candle to the likes of Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico or for a lighter audience, Ticket to Ride, TransAmerica, and Carcasonne. These games were specifically designed for friends and families. I've found they've improved the quality of our family nights. You'll find that American games have a lot of direct attacks and luck (Risk) and eliminations of players (Monopoly). ! The German style games are designed to eliminate those element! s and focus on strategy, cooperation, and fun! Everyone gets to play until the end and the direct attacks are minimal. I find them more mentally stimulating and good at building family bonds....Show more
