What was the poll tax? What do u think might have happened if the poll tax had not been abolished?

Dalila Yoon: Grandfather had a warrant for his arrest for not paying his poll tax. He lived in a different state and let that sucker expire. Needless to say if the poll tax still exist you would find fewer people voting

Solomon Belback: The poll tax actually served as a charge on Americans to participate in elections. It was applied selectively - mostly in Southern states in order to keep the poor from voting, and when we say poor we mean black.

Glynda Darrin: The Poll Tax was charged to voters to vote. If you could not afford the Poll Tax (supposedly to pay for the election) you could not vote. It was very effective in keeping out the poor; in the South this was used to keep African-American voters from using the right to vote.
