portrait or landscape sketchbook - which do you prefer?

Marita Stadick: I've always found portrait sketchbooks to be easier to work with. With a portrait sketchbook you could always turn the book to do any horizontal/landscape pictures. Sure you could do the same with a landscape sketchbook, but I always found that to be awkward on the hands. If a decision can't be made on this subject then you could always just get both. Use one for Portraits/vertical drawings and on for landscape/horizontal drawings. Win/Win :)

Rick Duchane: the last sketchbook i had was a perfect square, i loved it because i just did a black boarder in order to change the proportions of the page. it also prevented me from having to turn the book.if this isn't an option i would advise you looking at your older work and seeing which setup you use the most. if you work in scenery or still life, then landscape would be best. if you prefer portraits of people, chracters and whatever else, then portrait....Show more!
