What is the job market like for special education teachers?

Simona Bulwinkle: Special Education teachers are in high demand across the board. For instance, we need 2 in my district right now. But very few want to go into special education because of whatever reason. I love it. Plus, special education teachers generally get paid more than their general education counterparts with the same education and experience. In Oklahoma you're guaranteed 5% more.

Elsie Resner: Special education is one of the few areas of need in education. Most states need them, however, remember that teaching credentials are state specific. Be sure to get your credential in the state in which you are planning to teach.

Toya Braskett: It's one of the main teaching positions that are in high demand due to the limited amount of applicants certified to teach special education, which will remain difficult for school districts to find those employers. Bilingual ed is also in high demand along with some other areas of teaching. The employment rate for ! special education teachers is expected to grow by 17% by 2020.

Arlen Lopiccalo: Special education is one of the few areas in the teaching profession that needs teachers. The need differs by area so get a credential in a state that has big cities which is where most of the jobs are.
