Emeline Albracht: It depends how you define "computer". Originally a computer was a person that performed computations. There were mechanical engines such as that created by Charles Babbage (UK) and Semen Korsakov (Russia) in the 1800s. Electronic computers evolved during the 1940s with the work of Konrad Zuse (Germany) and Tommy Flowers (UK).
Micah Schwarcz: Collossus was the first electronic, digital, programmable computer, build here in the UK at Bletchley Park during WW2 to help break the German secret Enigma codes in a project called Ultra.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus_computer
