Can an IQ test diagnose mental health?

Adelle Weight: If you saw that in a show, than it is highly impossible. In my opinion, IQ only brings up a digit of your so-called inteligence. There must be other kind of test for mental health. For example, some people with autism have a very high IQ but heave a mental disorder.

Eliseo Luma: I haven't seen that episode in at least 6 years, but I'm willing to guess it was what was written on the the test, and not the actual results that put him there. Just because you take an IQ test doesn't mean you're confined to simply answering the questions. A disturbed individual could write anything they want on one. IQ is indeed a predictor of mental health problems though; the higher one's IQ, the more likely they are to have mental health issues. The opposite is also true. Only a very low IQ can confirm mental problems, but nothing is set in stone. Someone with an IQ of 194 might be socially awkward and lacking confidence, or they could be a top analyst at the CIA and suc! cessful in virtually everything they pursue in life. Someone with an IQ of 75 might be Forrest Gump, you just don't know....Show more

Blair Abdi: No, this is pretty much basic Psychology. An Iq scale ranges from Genius,to mental retardation. The scale measures the personscognitive abilities, moter skills, and problme solving skiis, as wellas social skills.A person with a lower- Iq Most likelywill suffer with a Learning Disability. If he or she, is even lower on the scalethey will be diagnosed with Mental Retardationwhich is actually just one of the, or the lowestmeasures on the IQscale.Though a mental disorder such asbi-polar, Autism, OCD, and anxietyis based off the DMV Diagnostic Criteriaor something like that, where they are ableto diagnose a patient based on his or her symptoms.-However, many of those with Autism can be diagnosedwith Mental Retardation on-top of the Autistic Disorder....Show more
